AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION FIRST AID COURSES

American Heart Association First Aid Certification Cards will be issued to all participants who successfully complete First Aid programs.

First Aid - Pediatric

Meets and exceeds the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (formerly Office of Child Care Services (OCCS))

  • Injury Prevention and Safety
  • Legal Aspects
  • Activation of Emergency Medical Services System
  • Universal Precautions
  • Victim Assessment
  • Bleeding Control and Breathing Problems
  • Bandaging
  • Shock
  • Head, Neck, Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Burns, Bites and Insect Stings
  • Poisoning and Allergic Reactions
  • Bone, Joint and Muscle Injuries
  • Seizures
  • Specific Common Injuries and Illnesses
  • Positioning: Unconscious Victim
  • Sudden or Serious Illness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea)

    9:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. 3rd Saturday of every month [except December]
    Course Fee: $45.00
    Textbook: $15.00
     

First Aid - Adult

Meets and exceeds OSHA Regulations

  • Legal Aspects
  • Protection from Bloodborne Diseases
  • Victim Assessment
  • Activation of Emergency Medical Services Systems
  • Bleeding Control
  • Shock
  • Medical Emergencies (asthma, heart attack, allergic reactions, fainting, diabetic reaction, stroke, seizure)
  • Injury Emergencies (head and spine, bones, joints, muscles, burns)
  • Specific Topics for Specific Companies or Groups
  • 4 hour sessions

    Textbook Fee: $15.00

Bloodborne Pathogens

 Meets and exceeds OSHA Regulations

  • Focus on Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) / Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Human Immuno deficiency Virus (HIV), which progresses to Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
  • Modes of Transmission of Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Identifying Hazards
  • Prevention Through Proper Engineering Controls
  • Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Instituting Safe Workplace Practices and Engineering Controls
  • Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Proper "Housekeeping" to Avoid Risks
  • Post-exposure Reporting
  • 1 hour session
  • Can be provided with American Heart Association CPR courses and First Aid courses
